There are four Hemispheric divisions of the Natal Chart – Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western. Their names are rather counter-intuitive, as the left is the Eastern, the right is Western, top is Southern, and bottom is Northern.
The horizontal dividing line between the Southern and Northern Hemispheres is called the “Ascendant-Descendant Axis,” and the vertical dividing line between the Eastern and Western Hemispheres is called the “Imum Coeli-Medium Coeli Axis.”
Each hemisphere contains different themes, as while the Signs position may change around the outer ring of the Natal Chart, the House placements do not differ (except for size variations).
Southern Hemisphere
Contains Houses Seven through Twelve – the top half of the chart. These are the houses that were above the horizon at the time of birth. These are the social, objective, and collective houses.
People with a majority of their planets in the Southern Hemisphere tend to be more unbiased, gregarious, and concerned with the events in the world around them, whether or not they are affected on a personal level or not.
Northern Hemisphere
Contains Houses One through Six – the bottom half of the chart. These are the houses that were below the horizon at the time of birth. These are the personal and subjective houses. These Houses rule the areas of life that directly impact the develop our personalities and help shape our individual identities.
People with a majority of their planets in the Northern Hemisphere tend to be more private and idiosyncratic.
Eastern Hemisphere
Contains the first three, and the last three houses – Houses One, Two, Three, Ten, Eleven, and Twelve. This is the left half of the chart. They are the primary houses of self-development, along with communal expression.
People with a majority of their planets in the Eastern Hemisphere tend to be self-motivated, initiating, action-oriented, and self-assertive. They have a strong belief in free will.
Western Hemisphere
Contains Houses Four through Nine. This is the right half of the chart. These are the primary houses for the shift from personal expression to learning our societal identity.
People with a majority of their planets in the Western Hemisphere tend to be other-oriented and receptive rather than self-motivated. They consider the needs of others before taking action.
