• Generational Planet
• Signs Ruled: Scorpio
• Houses Governed: Eighth
• Domicile: Scorpio
• Detriment: Taurus
• Exaltation: Pisces
• Fall: Virgo
• Duality: Masculine
• Time spent in each Sign: ~ 12 Years
• Time it takes to cycle through the Zodiac: ~ 254 Years
• Glyph: Like Uranus, there are two Glyphs that represent Pluto. The former is the more straightforward – it looks like the letter “p” combined with the letter “l” – both for the letters in the name of the planet, and the initials of the astronomer, Percival Lowell, who predicted its discovery. The second, however, is more complex. The Glyph is similar to that of Mercury, with the Arc lifting the circle off of the cross, rather than resting on top of the circle. It has ties in Alchemy, and is often read as spirit over mind, transcending matter.

I like to think of Pluto as the planet that strips away your power from you, and then gives it back to you when you're ready to harness it - and this time, it's better than ever before. When I look at charts I look at the house Pluto is in as the area of life that the person considers to have immense power. They realize the immense power of this because this power has been stripped away from them, and they are learning how to use it again.
I have Pluto in the third house. The research I've done on this placement concludes that this indicates a deep need to communicate, and I definitely have this. I've felt restricted in communication all my life, but I literally need to communicate so much. I write so much on my own time (journals and poetry), but never show any of it to anyone. I also realize that knowledge is power, and I'm a natural detective constantly trying to figure out people's secrets (I think this is a combination of things, though - I also have Sun and Mercury in Scorpio, and Mercury in third). I get obsessed with certain topics and can stay in the same spot just reading for hours and hours and hours. I feel like it gives me a lot of power when I learn new things.
What about you guys? What house is your Pluto in?

That's a very interesting Approach! My Pluto is at the very end of the Fourth House. Which is totally applicable - My family all lives in NY, and I moved to WA.

That's interesting! My Pluto is in the 11th house. I guess I haven't really had the easiest time with friends! Actually pretty hard time, had a number of emotionally manipulative friends since I was little. Would you say that fits your interpretation?

That's quite interesting that you use the word "manipulative." As though you're being controlled by your friends. Which is another good way to look at Pluto - it controls your (early, at least) life. So I see it as being a bit like Saturn in that way, though I think Saturn has a bit more to do with responsibility and discipline. The way I see it, Pluto will control a certain area of a person's life - for you it seems to be your friendships - until they can grab control back for themselves.

I have Pluto in the 11th house as well!! In my childhood and teen years, in all my friendships, I felt like the sidekick to a hero, like the protagonists best friend in a movie or book. I never felt like an intrinsic part of a social group, like an equal member. Thankfully I am aware of this through astrology, because if i wasnt, I think it could turn around to me trying to control and manipulate others to feel like I am in control in friendships - thats not the best way to handle a feeling of powerlessness - turning it around on others but pluto is extremes, its either all the way to one side or the other, but i just want to reach equality

Pluto in the 9th House. Gees, I honestly don't know how to explain it as well as you guys have. Bare with me here. The 9th House is mainly about Philosophy, right? So I have my Mercury, Mars, and Pluto in the 9th House so I get really passionate about what I believe in. I may never bring it up--but let it be a topic and I can go on for days. I have this tendency to 'personalize' whatever I'm talking about--focusing on aspects I think whoever I'm talking too would find interesting or enjoy. I guess it's persuasive but I really don't mean it to be. It's more like "I really like this and you would really like this too because..."
I think my persona is more accepted now that I'm in the 'adult' world--but when I was a kid it was just plain weird. I already felt like an oddball out so I didnt want to further the process. So I never shared ANYTHING about myself or my beliefs. I let myself be seen as very gray-faced and neutral about everything. Because of that I think people thought I had no real opinion and would think I was helpless or easily able to mold. Nah, I was just very tolerant.
Now, when I speak my opinion or talk about something I enjoy people have a more respectful approach to me. Which is cool.

I guess to me it's very different from all of you, to be honest. I have Pluto in the 11th House, in Sagittarius. And in fact, I do feel like it has an impact in my life. Although I'm much more into working hard and all (Cappy's traits), I do feel like I'm working hard now so in the future I can explore the world in the best ways possible. I want to travel, I want to explore everywhere and want to understand how other people think, and how they live. I do think it has also something to do with all my Scorpio aspects, as Scorpios want to deeply understand every situation, but I also think that the Pluto in Sagittarius, 11th House, makes me someone who wants to explore the world and explore the bonds of relationships as well. I don't get too attached to people easily, but yet I talk to them and try to understand them all in a form of exploration, if it makes sense. I guess it's a very interesting aspect of mine, and I'm really happy with my Pluto's position.

Am I the only one to see the 11th house as the house of The Group &group activities rather than just friends ? Friends to me would be more like the 3rd house since they're part of your direct environnement. 11th house is wider than that, I believe. I imagine the unselective nature of the Aquarian which'd rather just mix with the crowd rather than limiting itself with just his friends. Dunno.
I like your interpretation, spectra.

I actually tend to relate 11th house with groups of friends, and not individual friendships. For those, I would maybe rather think about the 7th house? I personally wouldn't really relate it to the 3rd house since I see the 3rd house more as like, superficial communication with the people in your everyday enviroment, meanwhile relationships between close friends are quite deeper.

Houses 1-6 are Personal Houses, Houses 7-12 are Social Houses. So the Third House is how you talk to people, ya know? I see friendship in House 7 and House 11. 7 is one on one relationships - friendships, romantic relationships, work partners, etc. House 11 is more widespread - how you relate to your friend circle as a whole, your whole clump of coworkers, etc. Definitely "The Group" applies here, as your entire friend group would fit into the Eleventh House. It just depends on the person. Some people's 11th House encompasses their friends, some encompasses everyone they encounter.

i have a Pluto in Scorpio in the 6th House and it is said that it was retrograde at that time. What does retrograde thingy affect in that? Sorry I am not even that into details with what you are discussing but i just want to understand. I do not know much about it Even the houses and all but i am really interested. I feel conflicts inside me most of the time. Thanks.

My Pluto is Sagittarius in the fifth house - the house of 'pleasures'. I think any house that Pluto comes into is actually a very useful energy, if as Selene puts very well harnessed properly. I tend to see, certainly in the charts of members in my family, that Pluto is more dangerous depending on what sign it enters and how well aspected it is to other planets. My Pluto in Sagittarius makes me someone who likes to explore, and this is a great sort of energy for me seeing as I like to be active and doing things in my life, all the while feeling like I can do it freely and without inhibition - but then my Pluto is square with my Moon: so if I run into trouble or have difficulties dealing with my emotions or expressing them in particular, I'm more prone to bottling it up and going into self-destruct - not, therefore, a constructive use of Pluto energy! Not only that, having my Pluto in the fifth house - which as Calli says is a personal house - means that I need strong, creative outlets in order to exert the destructive energy and regenerate it into something positive so I can then go out and do something active again before my Sagittarius in Pluto feels too suffocated. But other than that, I think Pluto's awesome
