Exaltation: North – Gemini, South – Sagittarius Fall: North – Sagittarius, South – Gemini The North and South Nodes are the two points where the Moon’s orbit intersects the Ecliptic. Signs are always opposite one another, since they fall on opposite sides of the Earth. The Symbols resemble horse shoes – the one facing up is the North Node, and the one facing downward is the South Node. The North Node is also referred to as the Ascending Node. The theory of the North and South Nodes is tied in with theories of Karma, Dharma, and reincarnation. It suggests that we all are born with some underdeveloped and overdeveloped personality traits. The South Node points to the over developed traits that we easily fall back on, but may undermine us if we hold on to them for security. The North Node points to the traits that we need to develop in order to find inner balance. Whether or not we consciously work on these lessons, life events will eventually force is to confront them. This tends to happen in the late twenties, early thirties, as before that time we may be somewhat blind to our South Node tendencies. The South Node is associated with fear, as well. This is a point of great insecurity in our personality. We crave what is represented by our South Node position, but the only way we can feel successful in these areas is through working on the qualities of the opposite Sign (North Node Position). This may be a struggle, especially in the first quarter of our lives, mostly because it’s difficult letting go of some of the obsessions of the South Node to embrace the polarity of the North Node. In that way, the North Node represents a point of challenge and growth. We may feel somewhat awkward or uncertain in the areas indicated by the North Node. The Nodes regress (or move backwards) through the signs, so will always appear to be in "Retrograde" in Natal Charts, but this isn't applicable the same way it is to the planetary bodies.

My mom always blames my south node for my bad arian traits. I've been called selfish, hot-tempered, and impatient all my life, though I don't feel like I am any of these things. I feel these are traits I have and I see but I can also control, they are not traits on itself but what I look like to other people when they don't really know me -even if they are close-. If I get angry 'easily' I did it deliberately and I don't really regret it, it's not like I couldn't control myself and exploded. If I appear selfish it's because I'm overly proud and bad at handling emotions, and don't like to admit I worry about others, if I seem impatient... well ok I'm pretty impatient, but for the important things I can wait for ever if it means I will achieve what I want. But to be honest, I used to get called these WAY more when I was younger, as I get older I've either changed some of these things a bit, or people have understood the real reason behind them, I guess? And still, I admire good Arian traits more than Libran ones usually, I even wish I was more arian, when my north node -and Sun- is Libra!

That's really funny, my North Node is in Aries! My South Node in Libra manifests in my diplomacy, indecisiveness, politeness, and aversion to conflict. Very interesting, indeed.

Hmmm I'm a bit confused about my Nodes. If your North Node is something that's supposed to be a "challenge," while your South Node is something you fall back on, my Nodes are kind of weird because my North Node is in the first house (therefore South in the seventh), and the same sign as my ascendant (Virgo). I find - as I generally believe of most people's ascendants - "Virgo" traits come naturally to me; I instinctively act like a Virgo as a defense mechanism. It's what comes naturally to me. So it's like... I don't feel like it's a "challenge" for me to act that way. What do you guys think a placement like this could indicate? Could it possibly be something I need to master on a deeper level, rather than just an outside shell? I don't really know how to interpret it.
However, I do feel I fit with my South Node pretty well. At least the part with it being in Pisces... I don't feel much of a connection to the seventh house. I don't know, I'm pretty romantic and focused on "partnerships" but I've always looked at it in a more of a Scorpio way than a Libra way. Anyway, I feel really connected to both Cancer and Pisces, without having any planets in either. I do have Venus and Mars in the fourth house, but nothing in the twelfth house. So, I guess my South Node in Pisces could possibly explain that a little.

Anyway, I feel really connected to both Cancer and Pisces, without having any planets in either. I do have Venus and Mars in the fourth house, but nothing in the twelfth house. So, I guess my South Node in Pisces could possibly explain that a little. I think the South Node is suppose to be our negative tendencies and tendencies that are more intrinsic and subconscious. My North Node is also in Virgo and my Mars (my Sun is in Aries) is there in the 5th (or 6th house). So it's easy to say that Virgoan traits speak/come to me more naturally than Arian or Piscean (sp?) ones due to Aries' ruler being in the same sign and house. And from what I've also understood--which may not be correct--is that your North Node is like your Life Path Number if you know anything about numerology. The universe--or whatever you choose to call it--will put us in situations that will gear us towards our North Node like the Life Path Number because that area and sign represents where we need to learn our life lessons in this lifetime. The South Node is what we need to let go of and move away from. When we're denying or manifesting our North Node negatively we fall back on the South Node, our defenses and weaknesses. When a Life Path is expressed negatively or denied, it too starts to act negatively and the negative traits associated with that number start to show. At least...that is how I personally view the North and South Nodes. As for your Ascendant and North Node being in the same sign, again I will compare it to numerology. Say, you have a lot of energy from a certain number. One can say that yes, when it comes to the challenges associated with that number you generally don't feel them. That is because the energy in general feel more more natural. You understand the energy better so it doesn't come off as distant or alien to you. You can utilize its strengths and recognize its weaknesses. But if you had a number as your Life Path, Expression, Birthday, or Soul Urge that was different from the other numbers--like say you have more 3s but your Expression number is a 9--you may feel like this energy is strange, that it doesn't register. This number/energy may feel like more of a challenge than other numbers because this energy is not abundant like the other numbers. I hope this is making sense. The Ascendant also make up the main core of yourself along with you Sun and Moon sign, so it's really no surprise that Virgoan traits come to you more naturally. And you have the North Node there and I'm sure that does something. As for the specific meaning behind why your North Node is in the first house, I think I may have found something: The first house is the self and the seventh house is others. If the South Node is what we need to get away from and the North Node is what we need to work on, I think it's safe to say that your first house is something you need to master on a deeper level. The Nodes seem to deal with the past lives, what we've done before this lifetime. I think thinking in terms of your life beyond this one should help you interpret your Nodes better. You can call it Karma--which I think it is--and sometimes we don't always know where Karma is necessarily coming from. But from what I've read is that you're never given something you can't handle. So in this life time you need to cultivate yourself, your personality, your independence. In the past you lost yourself in others and as a result lost who you were. You can't do it in this life time. You must work against it. Be yourself. Be independent. Be an individual. But also be orderly, analytical, and scrutinizing. Oh, and for the 7th house, what planets and placements do you have there? Is your Venus afflicted? An empty house denotes several things like: Perhaps the answers to these questions will help you understand why you feel disconnected to it. I know for me my Venus is in the 12th house and Pluto and Scorpio are in the 7th house so I think that can explain why I personally feel disconnected from the 7th house. For you? That's something you need to look into. @lailanights17 SO many useful sites and information, love your effort I know the south node reflects previous lives or your early life, but could it also reflect life during pregnancy? I'm asking because my twin sister/brother was a miscarriage. The north and south node are so fascinating! I am actually starting to believe I am getting closer to my destination in life I am going on an exchange abroad, and I think this will be one of the most important events in my life. Now I know why..... as a bonus, my 9th and 3rd house are duplicated and my midheaven is in Aquarius as well.

Wow... thank you so much for your response. I'd never really looked into the nodes before; I had no idea how much impact they could have! Everything you said or quoted was spot-on for me. I was never sure what that feeling was in my natal chart; guess I just hadn't been looking in the right places. OMG, I don't even know which part to quote, that was so much information. But anyway, I've always struggled in my life with taking control, being a leader, and focusing on myself individually rather than in terms of a partnership. I always let myself be manipulated and guilt-tripped when I was younger and still do sometimes. "In past lives, you relied too much on partners, even losing your own identity in your sacrifice for others. You were dependent and/or dominated by a spouse, friend, confidant, or other person. With the memory of such dependency and partnership, there is danger you will marry early and/or for the wrong reasons. Further, you may have a semi-conscious or unconscious fear of losing your partners, which makes you especially dependent. A successful marriage may come later in life. Because of past experiences, you may not even know who you really are. You are here in this lifetime to be an individual with all that that entails. Strive to develop a personality that is distinctive and that others recognize as your own. Take a stand without regard to how others react to it or what they think about it. You must resist at every opportunity the temptation to be a people-pleaser." ^ Basically, this hits the nail right on the head. I can absolutely see myself relying too much on others in a past life. And I can see why that would be something for me to watch out for in this life, because I'm always looking for another person for partnership, and I want it to happen fast. Like, I'm frustrated that it doesn't happen. "With the memory of such dependency and partnership." That's it. It's almost like I do have subconscious memory of dependency and partnership that I keep trying to find again. Very interesting. But anyway thanks so much for your help. That was a very good explanation.

Hey, you two. Sorry about responding so late. I'm back at school now so I can only really post on Fridays and weekends. Yet I always manage to be on tumblr everyday after school. But all you really do on tumblr is reblog stuff. It's not like I'm researching or typing very long posts like I do on here.
Franka Aww, thank you. If I really get excited about something or if I remember reading something that pertains to something I like, I usually tend to go a little overboard with information and sources. But if it helps others then all that work wasn't in vain, right? As for the miscarriage thing...I know I said that the Nodes (the South Node more specifically) denotes the recent past life. Well, the whole natal chart says a lot of things about our past lives (yes, plural). It's not just the Draconic chart or just the Nodes. In an astrology book I read (and also from what I've picked up online) everything in our natal chart is related to past-life Karma--good or bad because Karma can be either. In that book I very much remember it talking about birth. It said that malefic aspects between Pluto and the Moon (I think it was with the Moon) signified birth-related problems. Pluto obviously rules the 8th house which rules death, and the Moon is tied to the mother, menstrual cycles, and childbirth. So I wonder if some aspect between these two planets had anything to do with the miscarriage. I'm not for sure on Nodes but I can look into it. Just ask. :3 Selene Aww, you're welcome too. Sorry I bombarded you with all that info. I was just trying to make sure that something clicked because 1 or 2 sources may not always paint the entire picture or an accurate one. So I would say when cultivating yourself make sure to remember Virgo too. The sign of the Nodes is just as important as its house placement, I would say. I remember an astrology book describing signs as "what" and houses as "where." Virgo rules over the 6th house which deals with work and helping people which is really interesting when it rules over the 1st house. I think a possible interpretation of this combination could be saying that develop your personality and be wary of who you let in too far. Virgo is scrutinizing and on the judgmental side. I think if you are able to manifest this characteristic of Virgo positively it could potentially help you from losing yourself in relationships. It's going to be hard because the South Node is what we're intrinsically comfortable with and the North Node is new territory (most of the time). Also, Pisces dissolves the self and being in a relationship (the 7th house) can do that also. I also found this: So I think with you, you really need to find some earthly balance that is centered around not only the self but how that self can help others. That sounds very contradictory, doesn't it? Maybe another way to view this is to focus on the development of the self so that you can help others and not let others help or control you. You are now taking the reins and leading your own life but also guiding others instead of being guided. The Nodes are really about balance, I think. But we start off each life with them being imbalanced. By developing our North Node we can fix this but it's hard. We have to fight against the South Node and it's usually negative energy patterns and Karma. Once the North Node is mastered is when the Nodes return to an equilibrium, I guess you could say. I'm just rambling now but that's my 2 cents on the whole thing. I'll let you discover other things on your own.

Franka So while looking into the South Node in the 3rd house I got really intrigued. I think your brother/sister's miscarriage goes a little beyond astrology and more into the greyer areas of reincarnation and Karma. I know from researching into reincarnation that some souls purposely pick bodies where the baby is not going to make it. This is because the soul could have had a traumatic death in a past life and by, I guess, dying again in a more natural way, helps with closure. This could have been what happened to your potential brother/sister. Or, since your South Node is in the 3rd house, and since the South Node deals with Karma, their death was tied to you in some Karmic way. In my notebook where I took notes on Karmic astrology, they're unfortunately vague, only saying that it deals with Karma relating to communication and siblings. Since Gemini rules that house and it also represents twins, maybe there's some connection there. That quote you had copied said had a psychic conncection with siblings but may lose them early in life then makes sense. Twins often have some sort of telepathy that others don't entirely understand unless they're a twin themselves. And since the South Node deals with letting go--letting go your twin--maybe--and I do admit that this does seem out there for those who aren't into reincarnation or don't even believe it--your twin was sacrificed for you to be able to have the life that you did. I have some quotes that show what I'm trying to say: Based on this, your twin dying was potentially "beneficial" for both of you considering you two would have been born on the same date and thus had the same Nodal placements. By you not having your twin allowed you to cultivate yourself without another person's constant influence which would have been immensely strong since you two--regard of twin type (is that a word?)--would have be very close due to numerous reasons. By them dying and being allowed to reincarnate elsewhere independent of you too, they are possibly cultivating themselves without this twin influence and pursuing their North Node if it happens to be in the 9th house again. I find this all very interesting. You two had to literally let go of each other physically to see the full potential of each other's Nodes. I don't know if my little off the wall "analysis" helped or not, but that's at least how I viewed it. As part of your South Nodal lesson, you had to let go of your sibling and develop yourself. Them actually being born could have potentially hindered your growth and cause you to struggle towards your Life Lesson. I hope this doesn't sound...odd. Karma, reincarnation, past lives can be very dark at times and really not make any sense but I hope you get what I was trying to get at. I also found this:

@lailanights17 - Don't be sorry at all! I really appreciate all the information. And you're right, the signs the Nodes are in are important too, and I think Pisces in the sixth house is an interesting combination too, because the "what," I think, is "getting lost in," (Pisces), and the "where," is "in relationships with other people" (7th house), which I really find myself doing a lot. "Maybe another way to view this is to focus on the development of the self so that you can help others and not let others help or control you. You are now taking the reins and leading your own life but also guiding others instead of being guided." It's really interesting that you say this. I really struggle to assert myself and take the reins, but I find a lot of times I hold back even from doing beneficial things, like helping others. It's always like there are things I want to do that would end up helping people that I'm too scared to be the one to start. I like knowing all this stuff about Nodes, though... makes me feel like it's okay I've always had such a problem in this area of life and wondered what's wrong with me. Now I know that it's okay; it's what I'm here to learn! Astrology never ceases to inspire me.

Selene Well, I'm glad that you liked all that info! I too struggle with being assertive and here I am an Arian. I remember reading somewhere that the Sun is what we're always growing towards but since my Sun is in the 12th house in a Sagittarian decan, maybe I'm suppose to be a more subdued Arian. Most of my planets are in Earth signs too, and of course Virgo is Earth also. What an interesting duality for both of us, huh? Maybe this fear is tied to your Piscean placement. Since the 1st house is ruled by Aries which is very dynamic and fiery and Pisces rules the 12th which is more whimsical and watery, I think trying to assert yourself triggers Pisces in a way. You still don't know how to manifest yourself more outwardly in an independent way since Aries extroverted and Pisces is introverted. The 12th house likes to stay in the background while the 1st may not always necessary want to be the center of attention (that's more Leo and the 5th house), it does like to be first. Although Virgo is mutable, it's still an Earth sign so you may be slightly inhibited from being the first to do something. Aries is both cardinal and fire so it's like a "go, go, GO!" type of energy while Virgo's more "I'm flexible to a point but I still like order and organization." I don't know. That's just my spare change on the matter a little further. I think mastering the Nodes takes some time and could be potentially rolled over to our next lives. I noticed in my Draconic chart that my North Node was in Aries and now in this life my Sun is Aries! So maybe if you're curious about how your recent and later past lives are influencing this one, check out your Draconic chart! I know astro.com has that option. And it's free!

@lailanights17 I really appreciate your effort! Now I wonder where this 'need to inform' is coming from I find Karma really interesting, yet I don't know anything about that, aside from the south node in astrology I'm so glad there is an karmic explanation to the miscarriage. When you talk about the pluto and moon thing, are you referring to my mother's placements or mine? My mother has a moon (aries) inconjunct pluto (virgo), and I have moon (scorpio) conjunct pluto (scorpio). There are probably also some signs in transiting planets that I've read about which could cause miscarriage. It is very interesting, especially since it's the third house, which is ruled by Gemini. Funny that I'm a Gemini ascendant haha. I actually like this interpretation, instead of finding it 'dark', and seeing it as 'death', looking at it in a karmic sense makes it soothing to me actually, because karma led my brother/sister to another life. Karma is so beautiful that way. Sounds like I'm right on track ^_^YES YES! I chose the right education!! I knew it! ^_^ Soulmate attraction, I like the sound of that Thanks again dear! I am truly greatful Learning so much

@lailanights17 You keep finding the best stuff! And yes, it is an interesting duality indeed. Yes - I would agree having your sun in the twelfth house has something to do with the "subdued" nature of that Aries fire. But like you said, the sun is something that we are always "growing" towards, and we may not master the best qualities of it early on, I think. It's really interesting that your North Node is in Aries in your Draconic, and your sun is in Aries in your regular chart. It's like you're just meant to master being an Aries. xD
Wow... I just looked at my Draconic chart and my North Node is in Aries at 0 degrees, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds. O-o Man, I don't know what to think about that! Guess I don't really know if that's accurate or if it should be in Pisces instead, depending on the exact second I was born. My Draconic chart is kinda interesting because I'm a Pisces AC at about 57 degrees, so it ends up a lot of signs are in their rightful houses, because a lot of planets in my normal chart are in "opposite" houses. All my Draconic placements are (about) opposite my normal chart. Like I'm a Scorpio sun, but in my Draconic chart I'm a Taurus sun (in the second house).
Just out of curiosity, what sun sign are you in Draconic? ^^

Franka I think, and this is only from memory because I don't own the book and I didn't write that particular part down because I didn't know if I had that aspect or not, it's your own natal chart. Because if it was your mother's then it would be between her and her own mother, not you and her. I really wish I had that book because the Pluto-Moon "hard" aspect part was so interesting! The good thing is though I did write about "Motherly Karma": But. Wait!!! I found something!!! Found it. There it is. I'm actually really proud of myself happening upon this. What are the chances while looking at Plutoian (sp?) medical astrology? So I think both you, your mom, and your potential brother/sister all having Moon-Pluto contacts, and you and your twin having the South Node in the 3rd house all align somehow. I think it's some combination of sibling, motherly, and potentially family Karma. How, why, and what for I'm not for sure. It could do with something in either a recent past life or many past lives over or maybe even just a particular past life specifically. According to my notebook, planets on the 4th-10th axis deal with family Karma. Contacts with outer planets, especially malefic ones like Pluto and Saturn also point to Karma. And, of course, planets in the 3rd house deal with siblings. Oh, wait! I think I found that Pluto-Moon aspect thing! So from this little description above, I think I have an updated theory about your brother/sister. I'm going to assume that just like the Nodes, you two would have had the same Moon sign and contact with Pluto--both of which are in Scorpio (this part intrigues me the most considering the awful things I read about these contacts and the Moon being in Scorpio). Remember how I talked about how they could've chose a body that they knew would miscarry (for the most part our souls know a general layout of what a particular reincarnation will entail. The soul doesn't know specific events but it does know the types of conditions that will help them deal with Karma.)? I think another possible explanation could be the bolded parts, that "there is usually great ambivalence about coming into incarnation again" part. Maybe your brother/sister faced a "devouring mother" type in a too recent past life and was scared of potentially living that out again with your mother (which I doubt your mother is; the Moon sign is, by the way, how the person views the mother and not always how the mother actually is). While you were willing to take on life and stick things through, maybe your brother/sister couldn't. Or maybe it was the wrong time to reincarnate (that's probably where that ambivalence and/or traumatic death comes into play). Perhaps the conditions they chose to realize their Nodes and Karma didn't exactly match up correctly so they decided to do a "do over" so to speak. I honestly don't know but I like my Nodal interpretation better, where they may have "sacrificed" themselves in order for the both of you to pursue your North Node. But maybe I like that one better because it's not so...dark. But since you don't view Karma as a bad thing so maybe them trying out a different life in a different time and place was a liberating thing for them. So your Ascendant is Gemini. It's interesting that that's your Ascendant while your South Node is in the 3rd house. But I remember glancing at a Nodal site saying that not all of the qualities of the South Node are bad or need to be gotten rid of. You still need a balance so maybe your Ascendant being in Gemini is for you develop the more positive characteristics of the 3rd house/Gemini. Or maybe your Gemini Ascendant is a reflection of being a twin because the nodal houses mirror each other like the Ascendent and Descendant. Gemini-Sagittarius vs Sagittarius-Gemini (even though they're technically Aquarius and Leo, right?). This placement is so...interesting. I really don't know what to make of it. Your need to inform obviously comes your Gemini Ascendant and 3rd house South Node. Gemini likes to talk and communicate. Your North Node in the 9th house deals with learning, traveling, and philosophy. So put the two together and you get the need to inform. And I think in order to understand all this a little more is to study where Mercury and Jupiter are in your chart and what aspects they have to them. You can also check out your Draconic chart which is suppose to be your recent past life's natal birth chart. Astro.com has that option. It's really cool. I hope that you continue to learn and grow. From the looks of it you seem to heading down the right path!

Selene Lol, no. I just use google and sort of skim it all over. But I'm glad that you think I find good information. I do try to find interesting stuff and stuff that makes sense. Lol at that having to master being an Aries. It does feel like that sometimes because my Life Path Number (numerology) is 1 and it deals with the self and being independent versus dependent. This seems very much like Aries, right? But it's astrological equivalent is actually Leo which still surprises me. Yeah, with the Draconic chart it seems to be more or less an inversion of our natal chart. I think this has to due with how it's created. I think it takes the North Node's degrees and does something with math (I'm not good at math so I just sort of glossed that whole part over) and then there's the Draconic chart. I think it's interesting that your Ascendent is in Pisces considering your natal South Node is in Pisces. It's like you tried what Pisces had to offer and now you can't stand it, lol. That's why you're trying to get rid of it in this life, unlike me who wants to try everything Aries has to offer. My Draconic Sun sign is Libra with a Scorpio Ascendent which I find cool. When I was really into my Draconic chart and starting reading the descriptions of Libra, I felt like it clicked more than Aries did. Maybe this is because the Draconic chart, according to my sloppy notes, is the "true self," the "higher self," and the soul. And since my South Node is also at Libra at 0'00 (with my North Node at 0'00), maybe Liberian qualities are something I exhibit on a more unconscious level. Maybe I still haven't mastered Aries yet and that's why it's my natal Sun sign. Who knows but the Draonic chart is something very fun to analyze especially if there are certain aspects that don't appear in your natal chart.
