Hey people, I'm having an identity crisis right now...
So according to my time and place of birth, I have always been a Gemini ascendant, but reading up on it I absolutely never related to any descriptions about it, so I started believing maybe my time of birth was a bit off and I was a Cancer ascendant. Because those descriptions were so accurate, I actually started believing I was a Cancer ascendant.
To be sure I requested a birth certificate, which came in the mail today. So now I'm sure about it: I'm a Gemini ascendant. It's only a few degrees from Cancer though, but I am even more confused now.. Can anyone explain why I don't act like a Gemini ascendant?
My birth chart is here:

Well. Only explanation I can come up with is because your Gemini AC is about 28 degrees, which is pretty close to Cancer; and this may influence you more to act like a Cancer ascendant; but somewhat act Gemini as well. It's kinda trippy xD Sorry if that's all I can say

That makes sense yes. This is what I found: [from: wiki] So the ruler of Gemini is important: Mercury in Taurus and the planet nearest the ascendant: Jupiter in Cancer
[from: The Astrology Place]
Honestly it doesn't really apply, lol..
[from: Always astrology]
Really interesting!

My birth chart is here:
Hi there! To be perfectly honest, you have to consider not only what else is in your chart but also the lifestyle you've grown up with etc etc. For instance, I have a Pisces Sun and whilst that energy is still a predominant part of the energy in my personality, I tend to find myself more dominated by other stronger energies in my chart such as my Mars in Leo and my Moon in Aquarius. From what I can see here, you've got quite a lot going on in your chart where aspects are concerned, especially with oppositions so I can imagine the tensions between the planets such as your Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio might be another reason why you may not feel like your in connection with your Ascendant. I would also consider that usually your Ascendant is associated with how the world views you as a person - so like I have a Leo Ascendant, but I don't feel like I relate to that at all because from what it describes, it means that I seem like a very loud, colourful and confident person, which is a bit contradictory to my Pisces Sun - however, more recently when asking my friends and so forth how I actually appear to the world, they've said that actually I seem very confident just like how my Leo Ascendant has been described! I would have more of a further look into other aspects of your chart and what planetary energies are in play at this current moment (like retrogrades, planets entering their home signs to inspire certain energies etc) - you might find that maybe another part of your chart is reacting more strongly to what is currently happening in the cosmos that might be somewhat dampening the energy given off by your Ascendant? Hope what I say kinda makes sense and maybe even helps somewhat

What may play a role is what signs your Sun/Moon are in. It may be difficult to express you're Gemini-ness, with so many Earth-Water placements.

Thank you girls I'll let it sink in..

I see what you're saying about how I appear to be, but I am the worst with first impressions.. it takes a while to really open up to someone, it was even worse when growing up, so maybe it's something I'll grow into later in my life. The first thing I think about when thinking about Geminis is that they love talking, and I (often) hate talking. But I guess there is more to Geminis than that.

Yes you're right, since I've been learning about astrology, I've come to realize how much water traits I have. According to the power rank Gemini is also at the lowest rank, so that might have something to do with it as well.

Hmm, consider birth certificate times might sometimes be wrong, too. Have you tried any rectification methods?
-Damn. I was going to tell you about one and find the dates you need to check to rectify but the astrotheme chart doesn't show the degrees of the house cusps.-

If you want my honest opinion, I think you're Gemini Ascendant doesn't necessarily make you someone who likes to talk, but someone who is pretty good at communication - especially as Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the hub of communicators on any kind of level. Like with your post here: you managed to communicate to all of us here pretty well about what it was that made you feel like you couldn't identify with it, so we could then give you the right sort of information you needed back, rather than giving you an answer that might have taken it in the wrong direction. Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much about your identity in that consideration; I would think that most of us here don't relate to it at first until we get a bit older and evolve into the energies we've been given

wouldn't such a late degree be considered a cusp? I know there are a lot of differing opinions on cusps, whether they are legit or not etc, and also I have not heard about cusps in relation to things like the AC degree, but could that be taken into consideration? Also I don't know how long it would take between a 28th degree of a sign to enter the 0 degree of the next sign but consider that birth certificates are not always exact, ie born at 5:03:33 might just be recorded as 5:00. I don't know how much of a difference that really makes, but it is something to note I think. My recorded time of birth is 6:00pm, now what are the odds of being born exactly at 6, and not say 6:02 or something a little less perfect. certain signs in my chart are at29.5 degrees of a sign, so a few minutes off could potentially make a difference I would assume. I might be rambling just thought I'd mention that though.

(♇)luto: I guess you could say I identify with both Gemini and Cancer ascendant. After a lot of consideration though I've started identifying more and more with Gemini. For example when it comes to physical appearance I have the youthful look, I look at least 5-7 years younger than I am. On the internet I come across as a full Gemini ascendant (as they say the ascendant is how you act on the internet), because I talk/write A LOT, I am really curious, I use personal examples to explain things. I guess since I don't have any other planets in Air signs (aside from north node and midheaven, or any planets in the third house) my Gemini traits are a little weak, while earth and water are more prominent. You're right about the birth certificates, but for me to be a Cancer ascendant would mean they were 7 minutes off. Also my mom is very specific when it comes to times/dates, she said the exact time to me which is stated on my birth certificate. Anyway thank you for your rant and thinking with me

Alright, I've got a couple possible answers-
You might wanna try entering in your birth time seconds later? As others have said, times can be recorded inaccurately, of course, but to my knowledge, times down to the second aren't recorded at all. I've had a couple cases in which the ascendant can change signs completely taking into account the difference of just a few seconds. Yours may be close enough to try that - keep adding more in until you see how far you have to go to get a Cancer ascendant. Of course this is always tricky because we're kind of playing with the birth time and relying on our intuition rather than trusting the exact time, but it can be interesting to experiment with. And I would say if you can get Cancer by adding less than a minute of time, then there's a very good chance that's your true ascendant.
(Edit: Nevermind that, I missed the last post. xD)
Also - I reaaallllly think first house planets have a huge influence. Not necessarily on acting like the planet (so - Jupiter in the first house, you may not necessarily act Sagittarian), but whatever sign the planet is in. I have a friend who I'm not sure has a Sagittarius or Capricorn ascendant (it's close), but she's a Capricorn sun and has a Cap stellium in the first house. It's kind of impossible to tell what her ascendant is, because even if it was Sagittarius, it doesn't really show, with the overpowering Capricorn influence. Especially considering your Jupiter being so heavily aspected, it's kind of a strong point in your chart, and so even if you do "truly" have a Gemini ascendant, the overpowering outward Cancer energy could be explained by this.
I don't know - it would be interesting to research why some people relate to their ascendant more than others. I do think first house planets being in a different sign than the ascendant can be a huge indicator for not relating too much to your ascendant.
