In a prophetic dream, you see the future through your dream. It is difficult to determine that a dream is prophetic because we can only confirm such a dream after it has taken place. Even then, we only hear of the success stories. There are so many other dreams that do not come true. Thus, prophetic dream may just be mere coincidences. In the science world, it is believed that psychic powers do not exist. Scientists rationalize that dreams that seemingly come true may actually be a suggestion or guide for you to follow, thus making it seem as if the dream is coming true. You are willing it to be true. Another argument is that you may have a tendency to self-edit your dream to match the outcome. Because dreams are so easily forgotten, your memory of the dream may not be accurate. Yet another theory is that your dreaming mind is able to piece together bits of information faster that your conscious mind. Your mind is able to see what will happen based on information that it has already collected. Still, there are believers that dreams can indeed predict or foretell the future. Prophetic dreams are linked to major disasters, wars, assassinations, accidents, lottery numbers or even with winning horse race. Such dreams have helped solve crimes. In history, Abraham Lincoln was said to have dreamt of his own body laying in a coffin two weeks before he his assassination. British engineer, John Dunne dreamt of the eruption of a volcano in France which came true. Having a prophetic dream suggests that you are experiencing anxiety and that you are expressing a desire for certainty in the future. You are looking to your dream to help you make an important decision or to reassure you that you are on the right path. Type of Prophetic Dreams:Prophetic or psychic dreams can be classified into the following categories: Apparitions: These dreams involve the deceased. The dead appear in dream to deliver an important message. Clairaudient Dreams: These dreams involve hearing voices or sounds that are extremely distinct and clear. The voices appear from out of no where. Sometimes you do not know the source of the voice or the sounds. It is important to pay attention to the message. Clairvoyant Dreams: Such dreams are so defined when you are dreaming of something that is happening at the exact same time in a real life situation. Empathic Dreams: You are deeply moved by an event in your dream, but you do not know why. You experience clear and sympathetic feelings and sensations. This type of dreams usually occur amongst families, couples or very close friends. Shared Dreams: When you and someone close to you have the same dream on the same night, then you have experienced a share dream. Such dreams occur due to the extremely close connection to one another. Telepathic Dreams: These dreams involve a message that is being delivered via the dream realm. You are able to connect to someone else's thoughts through a dream. Such dreams occurs with someone who you are close to. Warning Dreams: As the description suggests, these dreams forewarn of something bad happening to you in the future. Such dreams give you the opportunity to alter the outcome. ( Source)

I think it's funny how the one time (as far as I can remember) I had a prophetic dream, I got it... kind of wrong? At the time I had this particular dream, two of my cousins were pregnant (in real life). I thiiiink they both knew they were having girls, but they hadn't come up with any names yet. And I had a dream where one of them told me what she was going to name her baby. And then in real life, my other cousin named her baby that. Thank you, universe, for the totally useless and vaguely inaccurate prophecy.

That's hilarious! I had an instance like that, once, only less... important. Lol. I was dreaming that I was in gymnastics practice, and went to put my undershirt on, but it ended up being my younger sisters. In the morning, while getting ready for school, I grabbed my undershirt, and put it on, only to discover it belonged to my sister. It was quite strange. Otherwise, two or three times I only vaguely recall, a person/feeling will be in a dream, only to randomly occur shortly thereafter in real life. No similarities, other than their presence.

I often have prophetic dreams, but they don't fit into the category. My prophetic dreams are entirely useless, it's usually just a view from a specific angle of a particular person saying a particular thing in response to a particular other thing. Withing the next two days, I always see the particular person from the specific angle saying a specific thing.
The only time it got weird, though was when I dreamed it from a particular angle and when I heard the person say the phrase from my dream, it wasn't from the same angle. It took me about 10 minutes to realize that the angle in my dream was the from the view of the person I was accompanying.

I dream often about natural disasters in far off places, or numerous deaths. I'm an empath by nature, and am ALWAYS deeply effected by disturbing news and other people's feelings, so when I have prophetic dreams I tend to not be able to wake up, and when I finally do, I'm either crying, sweating, or I feel sick to my stomach- sometimes all three. My most recent prophetic dream went like this:
I was in a city. Tall skyscrapers rose up to meet a swirling maroon sky. Clouds were forming in large masses, the wind was warm but heavy, and a wolf walked beside me, as it does whenever I have a serious dream. It looked up at me as we passed by a dirt area surrounded by a fence, and I watched in horror as a young boy ran, trying to escape a gang of teenagers, climbing this fence, ripping his hands and stomach on the barbed wire at the top, only to be dragged down and beat senseless when he failed to escape. A few of them stood in the back, arms crossed, smug, watching. The rest were animals, and I turned away, wondering why the streets were so bare. I hadn't seen another human until I walked towards a corner building. Some feeling drew me towards it, and here my wolf pulled away, watching. I reached for the door handle and pulled it open, feeling a surge of some sort of energy fizzle up my arms and neck. Six of my friends stood around the room, smiling and calling to me. Another man stood in the center, arms crossed, nodding. I asked them what they were all doing, they told me they were hanging out; my wolf walked up to me and lay its nose on my arm, and suddenly the haze vanished. All six of my friends were chained to the walls, bloody and tortured. The man in the middle wore lavish blue robes, and as he raised two hands and pushed me outside with some sort of magical force, the doors slammed shut and I was unable to find a way back in.
I decided to leave them, because this world was strange and I have never liked magic. It has no rules that I'm used to, and it can't be controlled by physical means. I decided to go home then, and walked with my wolf to my apartment. The sky was still swirling, as if currents made by dragon wings collided in every direction, never stopping. Not a sound was heard besides the wind though, and no one crossed my path the entire way to my front door. I laid down on my couch, looking at the small TV that sat beside my tiny living room window, and fell asleep.
When I woke up, something had changed. The air felt even heavier, and I looked at the news announcer on my TV. "There has been a hurricane in Haiyan, 776 people have been found dead so far. Evacuation is in place-" I didn't hear the rest. The world was stirring, getting ready for something immense. I jumped to my feet and ran out the door without locking it, keeping a steady pace as I made my way across the city and let myself into my mom's house. It had begun to rain lightly, sideways though, like sheets of glass. She was sitting on the couch with her two cats, one on either side. When I arrived I went into the kitchen, making small talk. She seemed really interested in just sitting there, petting them, watching TV. It wasn't the news, so I wondered if she knew. One of my cats jumped up on the counter and began twitching. I reached over to her just as she began puking up white froth, the substance coming out of her nose as well, until three small berries lay in my hand. I didn't wash my hands however and ended up touching my face with it, cringing at the realization. I couldn't wipe it off though, I couldn't even try. Instead I carried her to my mom and sat on the couch with her, watching as she puked again on the arm rest, more berries sitting in the froth. Minutes later my other cat began seizuring, but neither my mom or I did anything. I asked my mom if she knew about the storm, and she said "What storm?" I told her it was the storm outside, and I got up to open the blinds.
It was a hurricane.
Wind and water swirled everywhere, there were already cracks in our window. Nothing could be seen beyond the wall, and I sat back down on the couch, accepting our fate. We sat hand in hand, promised to meet up in heaven, and watched as the patio doors burst open, and we were drowned as the force tore our house apart.
----
When I woke up from that dream, it was before the Vancouver, real-life newscaster had announced that there had been 776 deaths confirmed so far, with more on the way. It wasn't in Haiyan, it was in the Phillipines, but they named it Typhoon Haiyan. I told my mom the dream soon as I woke up, as I always do when I have disturbed dreams, because she talks me through understanding them if she can. This one however, she couldn't quite figure out- until about 6 hours later when she heard on the radio the exact stats I had represented. She called me back and told me I was a prophet of God, and I laughed because I don't think that's the case, but it's not the first time I've witnessed a tragic global event, and I'm sure it wont be the last.
I think that may be considered clairvoyant, because I dreamt of it while it happened, but we didn't know about it until it got onto the news later on. Interesting to put it into perspective like that. I didn't know there were types of prophetic dreams.
I've also had warning dreams before. The biggest one was, I used to j-walk home after school at a specific place on the road. One night I dreamt that my wolf was walking beside me, and I remembered it was raining a little and the sun was glinting off the buildings in a certain way, there were certain cars, etc. My wolf distracted me as I walked across, its eyes pulling me to look down at it- then it twitched an ear and looked away, and when I looked up, I got hit by a car. So months later I had de-ja-vu, and I ALWAYS follow my inuition, because I've learned over time it saves me- it was raining a little, I saw like eight people on the sidewalk across the road or however many there were that matched the dream, the sun was glinting in a specific way- and so I walked straight to the crosswalk this time, and about halfway to the crosswalk, there was a car crash right where I normally j-walk.
I called my Nana and told her that story, because she also interprets my dreams. I think I had told her about the wolf dream before and she had told me to tell her when it happened- we both celebrated it.
Mm, and I used to dream this one particular dream every year on my birthday for about 6 years. Scariest dream I ever had. I could explain it all if anyone is interested- but basically two years ago the creature in my dream came to me in real life, and shit got real. The person sold the house because of this event, and we refuse to even look in the windows anymore. I'm also very open to the supernatural world unfortunately, without a filter, so a lot of my dreams involve demons and spirits.
But I've written enough here I think.

This is all really amazing! I'd be really interested to hear about the one you hard on your birthday.
